We design our products with construction methods that will enhance the beauty of the piece along with allowing it
to become a family heirloom to be passed to our next generation(s). These methods may be accomplished with a machine or a
hand operation, which ever method will create the best joint or fit.
The wood of choice for Arts
and Crafts Style is quarter sawn White Oak. The Greene and Greene frames are made from Mahogany or Cherry. The
quarter sawing is done at the saw mill and is quite a different process from standard flat sawn lumber. This method
allows the board face to intersect the growth rings of the tree at an angle which displays the rays and flecks of the wood
that is not possible with flat sawing. We use Select grade of lumber. If another species of wood is desired, please
e-mail us with you needs.
We us water based analine dyes which are much more color fast than other dyes and stains.
They are hand blended in our shop. The coloration is achieved by layering various colors or shades, this can be as many
as four (4) seperate dyes that interact for the desired finish. The
top coat consists of two coats of amber shellac which are hand sanded between coats followed by hand rubbed paste wax.
This wax is blended in our shop to give the appearance of aged oak.
